San Jose

Poem: SaN JosE Friday, September 29, 2003

Oh there’s a way
To San Jose
When you’re dreaming
And the sheets are thread with gold

Everybody’s saying no
No, that’s not the way to go
Have they led me in the wrong direction?

Can I take you home with me?
And show you all I know
And some of what I don’t know
And some of what you don’t know

Roast beef and pot roast in the oven
And apples in the air… Everywhere
We’re like peas and carrots and your such a little girl
People walking in off the street
Tap the window by my feet

Will you follow if I began to lead?
There’s only one way to go
To the meadow lit by sunlight
Colored by flowers
Tangled in her hair… everywhere

And no one is there to see
But you and me
And the world has fallen deep asleep
That’s the way it should be
In these shadows we shall stay

Just tow down the line
I’m the one that’s left behind
Barefoot all the time

As long as it may take

Driving on the way
And boy it’s cold outside
The only light I can see
The reflection of what I used to be

No one is watching
And everybody knows
Not today
Not tomorrow
But someday
